The procedure for the registration of cooperative societies in Kano state is as follows:

Any group interested in registering a cooperative society is to submit their application for the registration of cooperative societies to:

• The Director of Cooperative on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner will direct the Zonal and Area Officers responsible for the area from which the application emanated to verify the details and genuity of the application. This will involve a visit by the Zonal and Area Officers to the address of the prospective society at which the said officers will hold a meeting with the members of the society.

• The Zonal and Area officers will submit their report and recommendation, if found appropriate, to the Honourable Commissioner through the Director of Cooperative.

• If the application of the society is approved, the society will be asked to make the following payments:

• N10,000 (ten thousand Naira) for registration.
• N5,000 (five thousand Naira) for certificate and copy of bylaws
• N5,000 (five thousand Naira) for online data capture and validation

No societies are registered as religious or pollical groups. Similarly, no group that, in any way shape or form, threatens individual and public security are registered as societies.

All payments must be covered by receipts issued evidencing payment to Kano State Treasury Single Account.
