Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Cooperatives and Solid Minerals

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Cooperatives and Solid Minerals is responsible for the supervision and support of activities in industry, commerce, cooperative, tourism and solid minerals in the state. The mission statement of the Ministry is ‘to make Kano State a role model for the country’s economic and commercial activity’. In addition to those areas of responsibility, the Ministry is also supervises the international Muhammad Abubakar Rimi Market, Tourism Board and the Consumer Production Council.

Barrister Ibrahim Mukhtar is the current honourable commissioner of the ministry. He graduated from Bayero University Kano in 1999 and was called to the bar in 2001. Barrister Mukhtar was a partner at A. A. Mu’allimu & Co., (Legal Practitioners) between 2001 -2003 before joining the state civil service where he rose to the position of Chief State Counsel in the Ministry of Justice. He also served the Nigerian Bar Association (‘NBA’) in various capacities as Vice Chairman from 2014 – 2016 and as Chairman of NBA, Kano Branch from 2016 – 2018.

Barrister Mukhtar was the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice before redeployment to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, Cooperatives and Solid Minerals the ministry. He is ably assisted by experienced and seasoned technocrats with Alhaji Bashir Sani Yola as the permanent secretary and Alhaji Musbahu Rimin Gado as the Director of Cooperatives. Other five departments headed each by a Director are Commerce, Industries, Administration and General services, Solid Minerals and Planning, Research and Statistics.
